Group Product Manager at Booking.comCreating, growing and guiding the next generation of ground transportation products.
Hailing from the Rainbow Nation (South Africa), I'm a UK based product leader / occasional designer. Currently working at Booking.com where I am responsible for product strategy and delivery as part of the transportation business unit. Directing multidisciplinary teams of product managers, developers, designers and analysts.
Start with needs.
Understand the problem. Don't design without a set of requirments from both the business and its customers. Rigurously research, empathise with and articulate needs.
Design is purposeful.
Define a goal. Stay focused in achieving it. Ensure it is something that will have a descernible measurable effect - otherwise, at best you are making art, at worst, you are wasting money.
Work with what you have.
Embrace constraints. Accept the finacial, personnel, environmental, technological, and mechanical contstraints that you have. Designing for a well understood context outputs usable achievable and feasible results - and it will make you a better designer.
Engage in discourse. You can't do this on your own. Be provocative and invite provocation to drive us on to new, emergent concepts and differentied solutions.
Iterate, then iterate again.
Fail fast, test and learn, no assumptions! Iteration is the unit of currency for innovation - the more we iterate, the more we learn, the more effective the solution.
