Senior Product Owner at booking.comCreating, growing and guiding the next generation of ground transportation products.
I am a product designer with a background in industrial design. I have worked for the last few years in e-commerce where I have been focusing on creating methodologies and processes for combing holistic design with A/B testing to deliver fast, evidenced based designs.
My average week involves designing experiments / wrangling data / observing users / building prototypes / running workshops / working with developers / engaging stakeholders / changing company culture / challenging HIPPO's one test at a time.
Start with needs.
Understand the problem. Don't design without a set of requirments from both the business and its customers. Rigurously research, empathise with and articulate needs.
Design is purposeful.
Define a goal. Stay focused in achieving it. Ensure it is something that will have a descernible measurable effect - otherwise, at best you are making art, at worst, you are wasting money.
Work with what you have.
Embrace constraints. Accept the finacial, personnel, environmental, technological, and mechanical contstraints that you have. Designing for a well understood context outputs usable achievable and feasible results - and it will make you a better designer.
Engage in discourse. You can't do this on your own. Be provocative and invite provocation to drive us on to new, emergent concepts and differentied solutions.
Iterate, then iterate again.
Fail fast, test and learn, no assumptions! Iteration is the unit of currency for innovation - the more we iterate, the more we learn, the more effective the solution.
